Kory Bithell was a true friend. I remember only once being picked first for a kickball team and that was because Kory was the captain of that team. We ended up winning against the other team too. I was not the fastest or the most athletic, but Kory sure knew how to make me feel welcome.
Kory was always up for an adventure. I remember one summer night, when we were about 10 or so. Both our parents were out for the evening and Kory came up to my house. I was "sleeping" outside and he came up and said who wants to go have some fun. Can't remember everything we did that night, but I do remember racing all around Washington City laughing and I'm sure getting into all sorts of trouble and then seeing my parents car driving up the street.... We all ran so fast, Kory to his house and me to mine trying to beat our parents home. I always had a good time when Kory was around!
I remember in Junior High. Someone had picked on Kory's little brother. Kory couldn't have any of that. He came up to me "Mel" he said as he opened his hand to reveal a roll of quaters. "Come watch me beat this guys A$$!" Sure enough we walked around the corner and POW! Kory clocked him right in the nose! Blood gushed everywhere! He was suspended from school.. in his words "It was worth it!"
It was Junior High I have most memories of Kory. He reminded me of Huckleberry Finn. We only lived a few blocks from each other. We had fun playing night games and exploring Dog Town and Sandbergs pond! He always had a smile, a truely good person. And awesome friend! Truely unforgetable!
